Sam was a bit surprised to see Caelen go right for Olivia, but if he wanted to take care of Olivia, he could do that. Sam was just started to feel all teh more progressively scared out of his wits. He even did a double take when he Angemon having trouble with the door.

What kind of angel is this guy?

At least Angemon managed to open it properly. Eventually. But then he seemed to see somethign else, a gaze which Sam followed. Sam grew pale, his hair standing on end, eyes wide open at the sight he held. Seeing that demonic looking thing, emerging from the warped painting. The sight of the ghostly-looking bakemon fleeing did not help either.

For a moment, Sam was rooted to the spot, shivering in fright as the rest of his body remained arrested. Angemon's words finally managed to penetrate through to his head.

    Run. I need to run.

Sam tried to move back, outside, but couldn't. Bakumon finally pushed along, nudging at him.

"Sam! Come on, we need to get out of here," the digimon urged.

With Bakumon's prodding, Sam finally found himself moving backwords, starting to make his way out. Managing to break his sight, he turned and ran like hell, sprinting outside. Once out, he galnced over his shoulder, thinking on something.

    Olivia!

Thankfully, she seemed okay though--Caelen coming along with her in tow.

With the door now open they could leave the building. Rachel turned her head from it to look to Brayden, hoping he was ready to leave with her. She wished she hadn't. Not with what was coming out of the painting hanging on the wall.. It was scary looking and it made Rachel let go of her brother and step back a couple of paces. Who or whatever it was, Rachel did not like how it was making it's entrance.

Leormon turned his head as he saw Rachel back away. He wondered if Brayden had done something to upset Rachel. That was until he saw the same thing Rachel had. When he turned his head, Rachel was already making her way towards the open doorway. She didn't need telling twice by Angemon to leave. Neither had their ghostly servers. They had been out of the door pretty fast.

"Let's go Brayden," Rachel called back to her brother, there was unmistakable fear in her voice as she continued on through the doors, not far from Sam.

Leormon was soon after Rachel, but not at the same speed. Angemon had helped them before, shouldn't they be helping Angemon to fight off this intruder? Leormon looked behind him as he made it to the open doors. Half wanting to make sure Rachel was safe, half wanting to assist Angemon. Looking back to see Rachel still running, he made his choice. He picked up his speed and started after Rachel once more.

Sam had come over to her, telling her to move fast while staying with someone. Caelen also approached her, telling Sam that he got her as he took her hand. Not really sure what was going on, Olivia merely nodded at the both of them and looked over at the door, which was now open. But Angemon was looking at something behind them... Curious at what he was looking at, Olivia turned to look at it.

She instantly froze on the spot in fear. Something was coming out of the painting... It was scary and it looked like a demon. She barely noticed the crashing noise and all the ghosts rushing outside. She barely heard Angemon urging them to run. Fear of the creature appearing from the painting had her rooted to the spot. The red eyes, wings, and spiked horns didn't help matters...

"Olivia!" Kamemon shouted, trying to snapped her partner out of her trance of fear. But there was no response. So she started to go to give Olivia a shake in hopes that would work when Caelen began to move.

Finding herself starting to be pulled away in one direction, Olivia regained enough of her senses to look at who was pulling her. Finding it to be Caelen, she began to run with him as he headed for the door.

"That's right... Caelen's protecting me. And I still have Kamemon" she thought to herself.

Kamemon took one last glance back at Angemon and the demonic creature before she followed after Olivia and Caelen.

Max moved away as the others crowded to one side of the table, embarrassed that he had spoken loud enough for Sam to hear him. Following behind Angemon, but not too closely for the ghost-like monster was still near, he made his way to the main entrance and then waited while the winged Digimon unlatched the door.

He was relieved to see that Veemon was not far behind, but she seemed distracted. "I don't like this," Veemon made clear. It seemed she might further insist that Angemon explain himself, but then the door was opened and Max did not hesitate to duck outside. Whether Veemon liked it or not, they were finally getting out of the eerie place. Then, surprisingly, the hatted Digimon said something. An intruder?

So apparently Angemon wasn't just trying to get rid of them. Veemon watched as a lanky figure reached out from a disturbance on the far wall. A bunch of Angemon's servants pushed past and nearly ran into Max as they floated over the front steps. The angel Digimon shouted for the humans to run, but Veemon stayed where she was. Even though the monster on top of the table unnerved her, unlike any denizens of the forest she had encountered so far, she tried to put on a defiant face. Now she had a chance to show Angemon they didn't need "saving". "We will protect our partners," she declared. They had done it before. However, the others seemed to be taking Angemon's advice. She looked to Bakumon as his partner sped by. "Uh, right?" Leormon and Kamemon were next. "Wait! Where are you going?" she called to them.

Max looked back and forth, trying to take in what was happening. The rest of the group was streaming from the building, but Veemon wasn't among them. He finally spotted her through the doorway, but there was also something dark and menacing there, something that looked like a corrupted double of Angemon. "Not again," Max muttered.

Angemon had told them to leave, and Brayden planned on listening. But just as he secured his sister and began to escort her out, two giant claws burst through a painting on the wall. In an instant, before them hovered a thin, black devil creature with beat-up wings and hate-filled crimson eyes.Well, where there are angels there are devils, I suppose. Makes sense.

He turned to Rachel, who, before he could stop her, flew out of the room. Seeing a black devil come through the wall was scary, but watching his sister leave the room without him to protect her was horrifying. Leormon followed, but it still did not make him feel better. Brayden was responsible for her, it was he who needed to ensure her safety. His father relied on him to take care of her when he wasn't around, and he couldn't let him down.

"RACHEL!!!" Brayden screamed as his sister took off from him. At a time like this, it was beyond important for him to keep her by his side. "Monmon, we have to go after her!" The little green monkey nodded as he rushed towards the door with his partner, the two pushing the escaping Bakemon aside to try and catch up with Rachel.

"Ugh, I thought you could walk through ghosts!" uttered the Aussie as he pushed through the crowd.

"Not digi-ghosts! They're solid unless they decide not to be!" informed Monmon.

"Well crikey, that's just wonderful!" said Brayden sarcastically as he finally managed to get through the door. "Look there she is! Hurry Monmon!"

After the chimp monster followed through the door, the two put it into high-gear and managed to catch up to Brayden's sister and her lion cub partner.

As the children fled the building, Angemon began to step back--Soulmon floating back along with him--away from the who had appeared and caused this trouble.

There was shouting and screaming outside, some of the children and their partners calling out for one another. The sounds made Devimon grin with pleasure, but they filled Angemon with a sense of dread.

"You rotten little trouble maker," Soulmon griped, shaking a clothed fist at Devimon. "Who do you think you are coming here and stirring up a ruckus? Don't you have any respect for your elders?"

"Aw, hush up, ya old kook. Your time here is come to an end!' This was a new voice, one belonging to an eager looking green monster, armed with club in hand.

Soulmon stared at the ogremon, then narrowed his eyes and glared at Devimon. "Minions? Who said you could have minions? You've crossed a line now, young man!"

"What do you think you're doing?" Angemon growled, grabbing Soulmon's angry fist and jerking him nearer to him.

"Someone needs to instill some manners into this hooligan!"

Devimon started to laugh, and Angemon groaned; maybe it had been a mistake to take on the somewhat eccentric soulmon as a servant when he'd showed up a few months ago. He had seemed well-mannered enough, but he was making a big mess of things as they were.

"Evil will not triumph!" Angemon shouted.

"Will it not?" Devimon sneered. Pointing a clawed finger, he spoke to Ogremon, "Kill them."

Ogremon cackled, and came at Angemon and Soulmon with his club.

Outiside, Caelen caught up with Sam, Olivia in tow, and slowed so that he ran nearby, his mind in a haze, all his nerves on edge. "S-stay with us, don't wander off," he ordered Olivia, letting her go, but remaining right there, sort of wedging her between him and Sam.

Something didn't feel right. Sounds of groaning could be heard down the way. The air seemed to grow hazy. Then the bakemon were running back toward them, screaming, their hands in the air.

Something was chasing them, something hulking, purple and black. The creature swung at the bakemon wih its bare claws, causing a sickly purple hue to surround some of them. Moments later, screaming, their bodies seemed to melt away, dissolving into bits of data.

Angemon rose both of his hands, and a long, golden staff appeared in his grasp. He held it out in time to block Ogremon's attack, and bumping forward, sent the digimon careening into the wall.

Angemon turned and fled the building. Soulmon darted out as well, his senses alerted to the sounds of screams of the bakemon. Squinting onto the horizon, he saw the dark looking digimon and stifled a shout of concern.

He nudged Angemon as they ran, aware of heavy footfall behind them, signals that Ogremon was in pursuit. "Master, the digimon out there, the one deleting your servants," he murmured.

Angemon's eyes scanned the distance, and widened, seeing the beast. "That looks like Leomon! But--"

"Devimon who gain great power are said to have the ability to transform perfectly good digimon into corrupted shadows of their former selves with their attack, 'touch of evil'."

Corrupted, Angemon thought dismally, grimacing as he turned away from the sight of his old comrade and whirled around to hurl a shining golden fist at Ogremon. The attack landed hard on the ogre's shoulder, burning a hole into his flesh, which boiled and dribbled out streams of blood.

Of course Ogremon screamed, and thankfully no longer seemed interested in fighting. He cradled his bleeding shoulder and retreated, fleeing around the edge of the building.

Devimon stepped into the doorway, red eyes glaring out into the daylight, infuriated at Ogremon's cowardice.

"Can he come out here, or is he trapped?" Angemon asked bleakly, praying for the answer to be the latter.

"Evil creatures fear sunlight," Soulmon answered hesitantly.

"So we're safe?" Angemon asked, glancing at him.

Then Devimon stepped out of the building, the rays of the sun illuminating him without a shred of harm.

"Children these days are so misguided," Soulmon murmured, tapping two fingers together uneasily.

"What is going on here?" Angemon demanded, shaking the spector.

"It's a long story!" Soulmon squeaked. "I'll tell you if we live to find safety, but now is not the time. The children need protecting!" Soulmon left Angemon's side, and floated toward the children. "Distract Devimon. I'll help the Chosen Ones."

Angemon swallowed hard, but nodded, and held his staff out, ready to swing at the devil when he inevitably came near.

Soulmon hightailed it over to where the children had been running and shouted to them, "Nobody panic, but we're going to need to fight! Digimon, protect your partners! Spread out and make yourselves less available targets! The further apart you are, the less of you he can tear apart at once! Children, take cover, get behind something sturdy! I'll stand watch!" Soulmon floated a little higher, to get a better view of who was where, in case the fast approaching Leomon got to close to anyone and they needed to flee.

Having caught up with Sam, Caelen had let go of her and told her to stay with them. Olivia nodded in response, she didn't wish to be separated from them. Not with what was back in the building...

As she ran with Sam and Caelen, she noticed the air was getting a bit hazy but paid it no mind. The ghosts running back in their direction however...

"What now..." Olivia thought to herself as she moved closer to Caelen. She was still scared from before and what was going on now was not making things better.

Certainly not with what was chasing the ghosts... It was really big, being coloured purple and black. Its claws caused some of purple mist to surround some of the ghosts when swung in their direction. The screams and the ghosts dissolving made Olivia cringe and clutch Caelen's arm for safety.

"What is that?!" she asked to no one in particular, her voice panicked. "What happened to the ghosts? Did... Did they die?"

Kamemon glanced over at Olivia as she said that. She didn't want to think about it... Whatever it was, it was certainly powerful. Whatever attack it was using looked like something she didn't want to get hit by.

And they have to fight... Kamemon glanced to Olivia once more. She was with both Caelen and Sam, so she should be alright... Turning back to the fight, Kamemon started to move to her right, trying her best to keep her distance. And trying her best to not thinking upon the 'less of you he can tear apart at once' part...

There was that ugly, green ogre of a monster. That great, dark beast rending the ghosts into nothingness. And the devil that supposedly feared the sun, stepping out into daylight without a care.

Sam watched this unfold as the group of "chosen" made their escape. Thankfully Max, Brayden and Rachel had gotten out without being caught by any of the terrible trio of creatures. His body was tense with anxiety, fear, as he tried to keep a hold of himself. Were they sent to fight this? To resist this horrible, slaughtering force?

"What is that?! What happened to the ghosts? Did... Did they die?"

Sam looked at the source of the questions, Olivia. This little girl... Dear god, was she even in her double digits yet? And for the matter of death to be so much at hand...

Sam looked back to where the bakemon had been. Had previously existed. Could ghosts die? That sure as hell looked like dying--it was hard to interpret screaming and melting away any other way.

"Sam?" Bakumon's voice pulled Sam out of the morbid memory, the morbid sight, "Come on, Hat Ghost said you need to spread out and hide!"

His eyes moving back to Olivia, Sam's mind scrambled to think of what he could possibly say. He didn't want to lie, but this situation was nothing like anything he had ever experienced before, and telling a child that yes, things were dying around her--that was a crippling trauma Sam did not want to inflict on Olivia. Now was not the time to have a panicking child.

Sam look down at Olivia, tucking a lock of hair that fallen over his face behind himself. He quickly moved to lay a light grip on her shoulder, crouching a little to look her in the eye. His own sense of urgency and worry was apparent, though he did his best to be the sensible older kid.

"Olivia, we'll talk about the ghosts later. Right now we just need to stay safe. Avoid those things," Sam jabbed a finger in the general direction of the fiendish attackers, "Do you understand? Just stay safe and hidden."

Bakumon took up position between Sam and the attackers. For how jovial he had initially been, his determined eyes showed how ready he was to defend Sam and the other humans.
Take a step. You havn't gone anywhere. Take another, still nowhere in particular. But keep taking those small steps... eventually you'll look book and realize you've walked a million miles.

Rachel did not stop running when Brayden called her name, she didn't dare. She was somewhat confident that he and the others, who had not made a move, would not be far behind. Afterall anyone who had a few senses would not stay behind with that thing in the room. Rachel glanced back, to see she was being followed. Not only by her brother but her partner as well.

Leormon rolled his eyes towards Veemon as he continued onwards. Just where did she think they were going? Their partners were on their way to hopefully safer places.

Brayden was fast, from the concern that she had caught in his scream, she was almost a little remorseful from running off like she had. But it had been the fear that had driven her. That fear was growing as there were more screams and the return of some of the Bakemon. The noise and the calling from the other members of the group were enough to make her uneasy.

Rachel reached for Brayden's hand. It would be the only way she could keep up with his pace. Plus she wanted that support that she had Brayden there. Why were the Bakemon coming back this way when safety was away from the palace? And just why were they disappearing like the bug had? But that didn't matter too much, what matter was doing what the ghost in the hat was telling them. Rachel's eyes darted to a tree. Those were sturdy things.

"Let's get behind that tree," she pointed to it with her free hand. "That should keep us safe..right?"

Rachel looked around a little more. Hopefully the others would be alright as well. She had heard Soulmon give his request to their partner Digimon. Would they be okay?

Leormon followed behind Rachel and only stopped when Soulmon gave his orders. He gave a slight scowl. Spreading out made sense, but did he really have to carry on? Could this Digimon tear them apart one by one instead of all at once?

"It would have been helpful for us not to panic sooner," Leormon stated for anyone to hear. "So I think that is already passed."

Leormon stood his ground, not too far away from where Rachel was wanting to go with Brayden. His tail was in the air, swishing around dangerously. His back was up and his hair standing as well. Ready to attempt to strike anything that was required.

They must want to move the battle into a more open space, Veemon reasoned. That makes sense. She followed suit and hopped down the stairs, glancing back to make sure the black Digimon hadn't acted yet. She did not want to turn her back on such a monster, but she noticed her partner was beckoning to her with an expression of urgency.

"Okay, now we can go," Max said as Veemon approached. He started to jog in the direction the others had run, and to his relief, Veemon kept pace.

"Go where?" she asked, "There's an enemy to fight here." Behind them, there was a burst of laughter, and then a loud crack.

"We don't have to fight." It seemed obvious to Max that they should just leave Angemon to defend his own house.

"Of course we do. There's an enemy." Veemon stopped and turned around as she heard Angemon utter Leomon's name. There was a spiky guy with a big mouth bearing down on the winged Digimon, but Angemon was able to send the attacker away with one shot. Then the dark figure from inside the building reappeared and Angemon's ghostly companion was off to hurriedly address the group.

Veemon expected her partner to have kept moving, but he had not gotten too far away. A ruckus further down the path held Max's attention. Another creature was there, a large beast with a shaggy mane and beady eyes. Angemon's servant may have been annoying, but his instructions seemed sound. "See, Max, like he said, 'We're going to need to fight.'"

"That's-that's not what I meant," Max managed in response. He was unsettled by the increasing sense of danger, but he knew he should focus on trying to get out of harm's way as quickly as possible. He headed for the nearest tree and hoped Veemon would follow him.

The red Digimon studied the menacing newcomer as she advanced toward where the others were beginning to fan out before it. She decided to concentrate on this enemy first. Its arms were massive, its claws were crimson, and bones bulged from its skin. Was this a Leomon? It certainly looked a lot tougher than Angemon's scrawny opponent. Veemon grinned, regaining confidence as she anticipated the challenge. "This is gonna be fun."
