Brian Ward, one of Shout Factory's DVD producers mentioned after a recent suggestion for them to do Digimon on DVD that he would toss the idea up for the powers that be.

After that he mentioned low sales of shows like Medabots as a reason why a 'no' answer is likely  (the thread was started a few years ago, but he recently pointed out it would be a hard sale to the people in charge.)

Head to the Shout forum and show support for the possibility of a release (and preferably pass this around so we can get as many Digimon fans as possible to show support for the idea.)

Here is the forum thread- Shout Factory Digimon Thread

Although I would love if this happened, I don't think we should get our hopes up. The way the "powers-at-be" will see it is as a show that aired a decade ago, and now some kids on a forum want to buy it. From their point of view, that's hardly motivating enough to invest in mass production.

The 'fond memories of a show' is a big part of Shout Factory's business.

Which is why it needs to be shown people have those memories of Digimon.

I am a participant for what it's worth. I hope more join the show. Comparing Digimon to Medabots is rather humorous to me.

Medabots was on DVD? Digimon on DVD would be nice. Too bad they couldn't offer a download to own in case they're worried about money.

Does anyone know how popular the Digimon 02 subs on Funimation have been?

Could that be used as incentive?

Woahwoahwoahwoahwoah!  When did Funimation get rights to shove Season 2 on it's site???  o-o  *goes to watch*

Also, why is noone asking =why= funimation is putting up Subs for Season 2?

Or entertaining the possibility that distribution of Digimon in DVD format may have passed hands?  (yeah, I know it's unlikely that one company would give the rights to one of their shows to somebody else, but seriously, what other reason can there possibly be without an impending lawsuit?)

Yeah, I remember when the Medabots season one set came out on DVD, about a year or two ago?  Was wondering if they would ever release the rest of the first series (the world championships), but that doesn't sound good, especially for Digimon, so that'll probably be it.  I wish we could get the earlier seasons on DVD (sub or even dub), but... well, here's to hoping.  Gotta remember to go buy the rest of the 02 subs off PSN eventually (only have about a dozen or so so far).

While I'm all for a DVD release of Digimon, I've grown to prefer the Japanese versions better and would rather have those released on DVD, uncut with faithful English subtitles.

It's been done with other anime, so why not Digimon? Fansubs are great and all, but they're just not official. And the official Zero Two subs aren't quite correct as they use some dub names/terms instead of the original ones (and sometimes the wrong names, like calling Paildramon's Esgreamer attack "Cable Catcher", when its dub name was "Sting Strike").

I wouldn't mind the dub coming to DVD, but I'd really love for the original version of the stories to be released and subbed in all their uncut glory.

That is the reverse logic to this.

If a company can't sell the dub with it's comparatively wide appeal, then they know there's no chance in hell the sub will sell.

Media Blasters has even said numerous times.  GoLion/Dairugger are only getting released because Voltron did well and they could connect it to that.

The audience for subbed Digimon is frankly, very small.

I would say that is clearly a fact after seeing such a small "surge" in posts after asking for some action.

Meh.

Well, I don't mean that I'd want them to release the sub without the dub first/at all. I'm just saying that I'd want the sub released period. I am well aware that the smart thing to do would be to release the dub first and then the sub if sales do well. But I'd still like the sub to be officially released on R1 DVD at some point. Maybe not before the dub, maybe not immediately, but just at some time in the not-to-distant future.

Surely, I'm not alone here. There's got to be at least some of us here who would also like to own the original Japanese versions uncut and subbed in English on DVD?

I usually watch my shows straight from the computer or online (iTunes, Funimation website, etc.), what little tv I watch anymore.  So honestly, I'd be just as happy buying digital episodes and putting them on my harddrive.
