So, someone asked for this to be put back up.

This is a listing of any time a digimon episode made the top10 charts for anime in japan.

Here at the top is the brief summery overview for the 5 finished seasons (Digital Monster X-Evolution did not make the top 10 the day it aired [you needed like a 15% or higher to make it in that particular week]). Digimon Cross Wars is at the bottom since it's has yet to commence.

--- Indicates a jump in episodes because the intervening episodes did not make the top 10.

Digimon Adventure (March 7, 1999 - March 26, 2000)
Episodes in Top 10: 43/54; 79.6%
Average Percentile: 11.4%
Average Rank: 8.5

Digimon Adventure 02 (April 2, 2000 - March 25, 2001)
Episodes in Top 10: 26/50; 52.0%
Average Percentile: 11.1%
Average Rank: 8.5

Digimon Tamers (April 1, 2001 - March 31, 2002)
Episodes in Top 10: 30/51; 58.8%
Average Percentile: 10.2%
Average Rank: 8.4

Digimon Frontier (April 7, 2002 - March 30, 2003)
Episodes in Top 10: 7/50; 14.0%
Average Percentile: 8.7%
Average Rank: 8.6

Digimon Savers (April 2, 2006 - March 25, 2007)
Episodes in Top 10: 22/46; 48%
Average Percentile: 5.7% (124.3/22)
Average Rank: 8.2 (180/22)

Something interesting to note in Frontier is that the date Episode 38 aired, it was a 1 hour New Year's Digimon Special (Digimon got a 1 hour time slot that day). I have no idea what aired after the episode since we don't seem to have any files denoting anything after the episode.

Another something to note is that after episode 38, Frontier never made it back into the top 10, and with only 14% of the series making it to the top 10 (4/7 episodes being in the first 6 broadcasts), you could say it was somewhat a failure compared to all previous seasons (The full data indicates that it didn't do horrendously, but it probably didn't do anywhere close to what Toei had hoped for).

Digimon Adventure had a full spread, with 80% of it's broadcast episodes making it into the top 10, it didn't really have any large gaps in the viewership (the 2 gaps greater than 1 episode occurred near the start of the show during the File Island separation and the introduction to the continent of Server)

Digimon Adventure 02 did much worse than it's predecessor. 23% less of the broadcast episodes made the top 10, though the episodes that did make it had roughly the same viewership average. Notable holes in the top 10 include most of the end of the Digimon Kaiser arc (ep19-23) and most of the blackwargreymon arc, all of the digimon around the world arc and some of the generic battles (ep29-32,34-44,46-47)

Digimon Tamers did somewhat better than 02, with 6% more episodes in the top 10. It saw about a 1% falter in viewership in it's top 10 episodes against other seasons. Some of the more sizable holes are mostly in areas where it was generic fighting of Devas in the digital world, though these included episodes with Ryo's introduction and Beelzebumon's introduction (ep28-31), and the end of the D-Reaper battles, it was pretty much a skip every other episode type thing (ep41-51).

Digimon Frontier didn't do so well, it started off as the other season's typically did and it dropped down somewhat as with all previous seasons. Then it hit trouble, after episode 6, it just vanished from the top 10 almost. It reappeared at episode 13 (the episode where Seraphimon appears and explains the whole digimon war idea and what's going on), episode 24 (The episode where they get pulled into that sphere battle thing), and episode 38 (I think that's the episode the Royal Knights appear in, though I wonder how much the digimon new years special that supposedly also aired helped the ratings).

Digimon Savers came in after taking a considerable break. It did better than Frontier in that more episodes were able to edge into the top 10. It also maintained the standard average ranking for all previous seasons. Though the average percentile fell fairly dramatically, a comparison against other long standing anime series such as Pokemon, Sanze-San or Detective Conan show similar percentile drops over the same period and therefore should not be taken as a sign that the series did poorly.

Just out of curiousty what is the percentage of? I'm sorry if that is a stupid question but I ask simply because I do not know.

It also seems that, while Frontier didn't make it to the top-10 too often, the ratings remained conisitantly between 6 and 8.

Savers, while it did make it to the top-10 more often, seemed to have ratings consistently between 4 and 6... While the product sales for Savers is apparently up 150% over Frontier's, of you look at rating percentages it looks like Frontier might have actualy had more viewers...

It's the percent of households in the polled region who are watching a particular show at a given time. 10% would mean for example that 10% of the people (who are watching TV?) are tuned into show X. I can't remember where they're polling, though they mention it on their site somewhere.

Anime in general saw a drop overall in the same period for most shows (certain shows saw little change) with an average percentile drop of about 5% between the time Frontier ended and Savers started. The reasons could be numerous, but comparatively when you look at shows such as Sanze-san and other long term high rating shows, Savers has overall done better than Frontier.

Dunno about physical viewer numbers, I don't quite know how the polling is done. Percent drops could be from something as mundane as simply more people living in the region now.

Soo... if you take into account that 5% drop, Savers might have done comparibly as well as Tamers did back in the day? Nice~

This is kinda interesting. I asked this in another thread before, but is there any way we could get the American ratings of the series? I think it'd be nice to know since I'm mostly a consumer of the dubbed version, even though it has its faults.

Since it is on topic the ludicrous bump is acceptable.

Basically it is the same as the Japanese ratings

Adventure- Woo
Adventure 02- Woo
Tamers- Eh
Frontier- Erg
Savers- Erk

Although it is actually unknown how well Data Squad is doing because toon disney isnt that big on giving out ratings info (when I was in high school a relative got the licensing book which often showed ratings for kids properties, in the first 2 season digimon would often tangle, and beat, the pokemans.), and since toon disney is a much more niche channel then say, fox and fox kids back before it imploded, I doubt the ratings are as high as most of the dubbed seasons.

America is less forthcomming about numbers than Japan is for things like broadcast anime. Plus in reality, America is far more spread out than Japan is, so even if they did it like these japanese ratings where they sample dense areas such as the Tokyo and the Osaka area, Sampling NYC and say the Seatle region won't get you anywhere near as good a sample.

I agree with jpwong on this one. Taking that 5% general drop into account, Savers is clearly doing better than Frontier.

I think it is a bit wlike with the Transformers Generation 2 Comics...

This series came about at the time of great volatility in the comics industry, ......... Amusingly enough, those low numbers that Generation 2 sold back then would make a comic a mega-blockbuster hit nowadays.

Just compare what was needed to enter the Top 10 back then with what was needed now.

As for the Data Squad ratings, I guess putting it on a limited channel like Toon Disney. Bad Idea on Disney's part, I guess.

I also think that it drove off a lot fans to change the cast after Addventure, that seems to be a atleast the case in Germany ( we have some pretty narrow-minded Fans there. Some say that everything that is not Adventure is not Digimon....)
